Literature Text

Stepping on the edge, you lean into oblivion
Staring into the void where your light once burned,
Remembering how it shined as brightly as the sun.

Now I watch you there, cowering in the dark,
Afraid to reach out and let another in
Because they might lift you up, only to let you down again.

So remain in your cage, singing your mournful melodies.
I’m sure that it’s safer than the light of this world.
After all, you can’t get hurt if you never come out.

But listen to me when I say this:
The person that can hurt you the most is yourself.
If you just stay there, avoiding the pain that others inflict,
Then all you’ll be able to do is watch their happier moments from afar,
Rotting inside as your mind and heart rage war on one another.

Sometimes we stumble, and that’s just how life works.
But no one ever reached the stars without falling a few times first.
You can dream forever, but your dreams will only be an imaginary creation,
So long as you’re too afraid to take the risk and make them true.

If you try, and keep going no matter how many times you fall,
I assure that, no matter where you end up, you’ll be happier than you are in your dark little corner.

So step into the light and share this world with us.
Yet another poem that made it into my school's literary magazine this year.

Kind of how I feel about people at times. I think I mostly wrote this just to use the phrase "mournful melodies," though. Hopefully it's still inspirational or something despite that fact.
