Literature Text

I can’t honestly say
I know the color of your eyes,
How deep they seem,
Or how brightly they shine.

In truth, I’m afraid.
Afraid to look you in the eyes.
Afraid to let you see how I feel.
So I avoid your chilling gaze.

But I do know your stunning smile
And your incredible laugh.
I see all the joy you bring to others,
And I love the joy your presence brings me.

I wonder if you know this feeling.
Do you have someone like that?
Someone whose eyes you’re afraid to meet
Because they might look into yours and see the truth?

Do you ever try to meet my eyes
And wonder why I always look away?
Or maybe you’re scared of my gaze as well,
But I could only wish to be so lucky.

I can’t honestly say
I know the color of your eyes.
But I know the color of your spirit
And I can’t help but love its vibrant hue.
Another one of my poems that got published in my school's literary magazine this year.

This isn't really about one specific person, although there was one guy that I thought of more prominently than others while writing this poem. Does that make it about him? Kind of. The only reason it's not is because there's one or two other people that I like that it could apply to, and that I was thinking of to a lesser extent when writing this. Either way, the feelings in the poem are the same. Hope you like it.
